NOTES FROM MAESTRO MICKELTHWATE

“In our sixth classics program, we are continuing our exciting Naxos recording project that we started last season with Jonathan Leshnoff’s ‘Of thee I sing,’ our commission for the 25th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing.  This time we are recording his Violin Concerto No. 2 with the concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic, Noah Bendix-Balgley.  Leshnoff being Jewish, I want to honor the Jewish legacy and culture that evening with Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, my first Mahler concert here in Oklahoma.”
