The front of the note…

I am always after my students (and myself!) about developing a crisp/clear front of the note. When pursuing this, we must remember to be divorced from the conscious physical act. Playing this way can't result in unnecessary physical, conscious manipulation of our face, tongue, or whatever else. You must hear this in the context of the imagination of your sound.

This articulation is ESSENTIAL for use in symphonic, chamber, commercial, solo, etc.. Obviously, I am not advocating you play without proper style, or like a bull in a china shop, but this articulation is necessary at times.

I use the following clips with my students regarding this concept. Enjoy!

If you have nay questions or would like to discuss this topic, please contact me.
